Gloassary term:

Progressive tissue fibrosis

Progressive tissue fibrosis is the pathological accumulation of extracellular matrix components, primarily collagen, leading to the thickening and stiffening of tissues. This process can impair organ function and is significant in various conditions, including chronic inflammatory diseases and certain cancers, where it can result in organ failure. A key example is pulmonary fibrosis, which can lead to respiratory insufficiency and significantly impact patient quality of life.
