Gloassary term:

Xanthelasma

Xanthelasma are yellowish, flat or slightly raised plaques that typically appear on the eyelids, caused by lipid-laden macrophage accumulation in the dermis. They are clinically significant as visible markers of underlying lipid metabolism disorders, often prompting evaluation for hyperlipidaemia. A key association is their frequent occurrence in patients with elevated cholesterol, which increases cardiovascular risk.
