Gloassary term:

Permanent (Chronic) AF

Permanent (Chronic) Atrial Fibrillation is a sustained arrhythmia characterised by continuous irregular and often rapid atrial electrical activity that persists despite attempts at rhythm control. It matters clinically because it influences long-term management strategies, prioritising rate control and anticoagulation over rhythm restoration. A key complication is the increased risk of thromboembolic stroke due to ineffective atrial contraction and blood stasis.
