Ossification is the biological process by which new bone tissue forms, either by direct mineralisation of connective tissue (intramembranous) or by replacing cartilage (endochondral). It is essential for normal skeletal development, growth, and fracture healing. Abnormal ossification can lead to conditions like heterotopic ossification, causing pain and restricted movement.
