Degenerative disc disease is the progressive deterioration of intervertebral discs due to age-related biochemical and structural changes, leading to loss of disc height and elasticity. Clinically, it is a common cause of chronic back pain and spinal instability. It is often associated with herniated discs, which can cause nerve root compression and radiculopathy.
