Gloassary term:

PaO2

PaO2, or partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood, measures the amount of oxygen dissolved in plasma, reflecting lung function and oxygenation status. It is crucial in assessing respiratory efficiency and guiding oxygen therapy in conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). A low PaO2 indicates hypoxemia, which can lead to tissue hypoxia and organ dysfunction if not promptly addressed.
