Systemic sclerosis (SSc)

Systemic sclerosis (SSc), also known as scleroderma, is a chronic autoimmune connective tissue disorder characterised by widespread fibrosis, vascular alterations, and immune dysregulation, affecting the skin and internal organs. Its clinical significance lies in the potential for severe complications, such as pulmonary hypertension and interstitial lung disease, which can significantly impact morbidity and mortality. A key association is the presence of specific autoantibodies, such as anti-Scl-70.
