Scleroderma renal crisis (SRC) is a severe and potentially life-threatening complication of systemic sclerosis, characterised by sudden onset hypertension and acute renal failure due to renal microvascular damage. It is clinically significant as it can lead to rapid deterioration of kidney function, necessitating immediate intervention to prevent irreversible damage. SRC is often associated with diffuse scleroderma and can occur in patients receiving corticosteroid therapy.
