Gloassary term:

Anti-RNA polymerase III

Anti-RNA polymerase III antibodies are autoantibodies directed against the enzyme responsible for synthesising RNA from DNA, playing a crucial role in transcription. Their presence is significant in clinical practice as they are commonly associated with systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), particularly the diffuse form, and can indicate a higher risk of renal crisis and pulmonary complications. Recognising these antibodies aids in diagnosis and management of related autoimmune conditions.
