Gloassary term:

Peripheral vasoconstriction

Peripheral vasoconstriction is the narrowing of blood vessels in the extremities, primarily due to sympathetic nervous system activation or local factors, which reduces blood flow to these areas. This physiological response is crucial in maintaining core body temperature and blood pressure during stress or cold exposure. However, excessive or prolonged vasoconstriction can lead to complications such as tissue ischemia, particularly in conditions like Raynaud's phenomenon.
