Salt tablets

Salt tablets are oral supplements containing sodium chloride, primarily used to prevent or treat hyponatraemia and to maintain electrolyte balance in patients at risk of sodium depletion, such as those with excessive sweating, certain gastrointestinal losses, or on diuretics. Their clinical relevance lies in managing conditions where sodium levels are critical for fluid balance and nerve function. A key association is with athletes, who may require salt tablets during prolonged exercise to prevent cramping and maintain performance.
