Alpha-1 agonists

Alpha-1 agonists are a class of medications that stimulate alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction and increased peripheral resistance, which elevates blood pressure. They are clinically significant in treating conditions like hypotension and nasal congestion. A key example is phenylephrine, commonly used as a decongestant; however, excessive use can lead to hypertension and reflex bradycardia, highlighting the need for careful monitoring.
