ADH deficiency, or vasopressin deficiency, is a condition characterised by insufficient secretion of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) from the posterior pituitary gland, leading to impaired water reabsorption in the kidneys. This results in polyuria and polydipsia, which can significantly affect fluid balance and electrolyte levels, increasing the risk of dehydration and hypernatremia. A key association is diabetes insipidus, where patients experience excessive thirst and urination due to this deficiency.
