Mydriasis

Mydriasis is the abnormal dilation of the pupil, which can occur due to various factors, including sympathetic nervous system activation, pharmacological agents, or neurological conditions. It is clinically significant as it can indicate underlying pathologies such as traumatic brain injury, glaucoma, or drug toxicity. A key association is the use of anticholinergic drugs, which can induce mydriasis and affect the eye's response to light, impacting visual acuity and examination findings.
