Opioid intoxication

Opioid intoxication is a condition resulting from the excessive use of opioid substances, characterised by symptoms such as respiratory depression, altered mental status, pinpoint pupils, and decreased gastrointestinal motility. It is critical in clinical practice due to the potential for life-threatening respiratory failure and the need for prompt intervention, such as naloxone administration. A key complication includes the risk of opioid overdose, which can lead to coma or death if untreated.
