The anterior compartment refers to the front section of a limb, typically the lower leg, containing muscles responsible for dorsiflexion and toe extension, along with associated nerves and blood vessels. It is clinically important because increased pressure within this compartment can compromise circulation and nerve function, leading to acute compartment syndrome. Prompt recognition and treatment are critical to prevent permanent muscle and nerve damage.
