Conduction defects are abnormalities in the heart’s electrical system that disrupt the normal propagation of impulses, leading to arrhythmias or heart block. They are clinically significant because they can cause syncope, heart failure, or sudden cardiac death. A common example is atrioventricular block, which may require pacemaker implantation to maintain adequate heart rhythm.
