Congenital arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are abnormal connections between arteries and veins that occur during fetal development, bypassing the capillary system. Clinically significant due to their potential to cause complications such as hemorrhage, ischemia, or heart failure, AVMs can present with symptoms depending on their location and size. A key association includes hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which increases the risk of developing multiple AVMs.
