Corneal arcus is a grey or white opaque ring at the peripheral cornea caused by lipid deposition in the corneal stroma. It is clinically significant as a visible marker of systemic lipid metabolism abnormalities and may indicate underlying hyperlipidaemia, especially in younger patients. In older adults, it is often benign but warrants assessment for cardiovascular risk factors.
