Exertional claudication is pain, cramping, or fatigue in the muscles of the legs triggered by physical activity due to inadequate blood flow from peripheral arterial disease. It is clinically important as it indicates underlying arterial obstruction, guiding diagnosis and management to prevent progression. A key association is atherosclerosis, which can lead to critical limb ischemia if untreated.
