Gloassary term:

ezetimibe

Ezetimibe is a lipid-lowering medication that selectively inhibits the absorption of cholesterol at the small intestine’s brush border, reducing plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels. It is clinically important as an adjunct or alternative to statins for managing hypercholesterolaemia, particularly in patients who cannot tolerate statins or require additional LDL reduction. A key consideration is its use in combination therapy to enhance cardiovascular risk reduction without significantly increasing adverse effects.
