GAVE, or gastric antral vascular ectasia, is a condition characterised by dilated, tortuous blood vessels in the gastric antrum, often leading to gastrointestinal bleeding. It is clinically significant as it can cause chronic iron deficiency anaemia due to recurrent blood loss, particularly in older adults or those with underlying liver disease. A key association is its occurrence in patients with systemic sclerosis, highlighting the need for careful evaluation in such populations.
