Haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) is a serious condition characterised by the triad of acute renal failure, microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia, and thrombocytopenia, often following an infection with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli. It is crucial in clinical practice due to its potential for rapid deterioration and the need for supportive care, including dialysis. A key association is its occurrence after gastroenteritis, particularly in children, highlighting the importance of early recognition and management.
