Hemorrhagic disease of the newborn

Hemorrhagic disease of the newborn is a bleeding disorder caused by vitamin K deficiency, leading to impaired synthesis of clotting factors II, VII, IX, and X. It is clinically significant as it can cause severe, potentially fatal bleeding in neonates, especially intracranial haemorrhage. Early vitamin K prophylaxis is essential to prevent this condition.
