Intracompartmental pressure (ICP) is the hydrostatic pressure within a closed muscle compartment bounded by fascia. It is critical in clinical practice because elevated ICP can compromise blood flow and tissue viability, leading to ischemia. A key complication of increased ICP is acute compartment syndrome, which requires prompt diagnosis and intervention to prevent permanent muscle and nerve damage.
