Lipemia retinalis is a retinal vascular condition characterised by a creamy white appearance of retinal blood vessels due to extremely elevated triglyceride levels in the blood. It is clinically significant as it indicates severe hypertriglyceridaemia, which can increase the risk of acute pancreatitis and cardiovascular disease. This finding often prompts urgent investigation and management of underlying lipid metabolism disorders.
