Lower leg compartments are distinct anatomical spaces enclosed by fascia that contain muscles, nerves, and blood vessels responsible for foot and ankle movement and sensation. Understanding these compartments is crucial in clinical practice because increased pressure within them, such as from trauma or swelling, can lead to compartment syndrome, a surgical emergency. If untreated, this condition can cause irreversible muscle and nerve damage, resulting in functional impairment.
