Mineralization is the biological process by which minerals, primarily calcium and phosphate, are deposited in the extracellular matrix of tissues, leading to hardening or calcification. This process is essential for the formation and maintenance of bones and teeth, providing structural strength and rigidity. Abnormal mineralization can result in pathological calcifications, such as vascular calcification, which contributes to cardiovascular disease.
