Muscle hyperemia is the increased blood flow to skeletal muscle tissue, typically occurring during or after exercise to meet elevated metabolic demands. It is clinically important because it reflects the muscle’s ability to regulate oxygen and nutrient delivery, which can be impaired in vascular or metabolic disorders. A key association is its role in conditions like compartment syndrome, where excessive blood flow and swelling can compromise tissue viability.
