Gloassary term:

Non-inflammatory fluid

Non-inflammatory fluid refers to a type of bodily fluid that accumulates without the presence of inflammation, typically characterised by a low protein content and a clear appearance. Clinically, it is significant as it can indicate conditions such as heart failure or cirrhosis, where fluid accumulation occurs due to altered hemodynamics rather than infection or injury. An example is transudative pleural effusion, which can complicate respiratory function if not addressed.
