Passive stretch refers to the elongation of a muscle or soft tissue caused by an external force without active contraction by the patient. It is important in clinical assessment to evaluate muscle tone, joint range of motion, and detect abnormalities such as spasticity or contractures. For example, reduced passive stretch in a limb may indicate muscle stiffness following a stroke or prolonged immobilisation.
