Thrombotic microangiopathy is a pathological condition characterised by the formation of small blood clots in the microcirculation, leading to organ damage and a reduction in blood flow. It is clinically significant as it can result in serious complications such as acute kidney injury, neurological deficits, and haemolytic anaemia. A key association is with conditions like thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), which requires prompt recognition and treatment to prevent morbidity and mortality.
