The vessel lumen is the hollow interior space within a blood vessel through which blood flows. Its diameter and patency are critical for maintaining adequate tissue perfusion and oxygen delivery. Narrowing of the vessel lumen, as seen in atherosclerosis, can lead to reduced blood flow and complications such as ischemia or infarction.
