“Subacromial” refers to the space or structures located beneath the acromion of the scapula, most notably the subacromial bursa and the rotator cuff tendons as they pass over the humeral head. It is a common site of pathology in the shoulder, where inflammation or narrowing of the subacromial space (for example in subacromial bursitis or impingement) causes pain, particularly with overhead or mid-range abduction movements.
