Clinical depression, or major depressive disorder, is a mood disorder characterised by persistent low mood, anhedonia, and cognitive impairment lasting at least two weeks, significantly impairing daily functioning. It matters clinically due to its high prevalence and impact on morbidity, including increased risk of suicide, necessitating timely diagnosis and treatment.
