Hypomagnesemia

Hypomagnesemia is a condition characterised by abnormally low levels of magnesium in the blood, typically defined as serum magnesium concentration below 0.75 mmol/L. It is clinically significant as magnesium plays a crucial role in numerous physiological processes, including neuromuscular function, cardiovascular health, and bone metabolism. A key association is its occurrence in patients with chronic alcoholism, which can lead to complications such as arrhythmias and muscle weakness.
