Activated charcoal

Activated charcoal is a form of carbon processed to have a porous structure, enhancing its ability to adsorb toxins and chemicals in the gastrointestinal tract. It is clinically significant in the management of certain types of poisoning and overdose, as it can reduce systemic absorption of harmful substances if administered promptly. However, it is contraindicated in cases of caustic ingestion or when the airway is compromised, as it may complicate airway management.
