Megaoesophagus

Megaoesophagus is a condition characterised by abnormal dilation of the oesophagus, leading to impaired peristalsis and difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia). Clinically, it is significant as it can result in malnutrition, aspiration pneumonia, and significant morbidity if not managed appropriately. A key association is with conditions such as achalasia or myasthenia gravis, where the underlying pathology contributes to the dysfunction of oesophageal motility.
