Klebsiella pneumoniae

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a gram-negative, encapsulated bacterium that is a common cause of pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and bloodstream infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. Its clinical significance lies in its increasing resistance to antibiotics, making infections difficult to treat and leading to higher morbidity and mortality rates. A notable complication associated with Klebsiella pneumoniae is the development of necrotizing pneumonia, which can result in lung abscesses.
