Liver injury

Liver injury refers to damage to liver cells, which can result from various factors, including toxins, infections, or metabolic disorders. It is clinically significant as it can lead to impaired liver function, manifesting as jaundice, coagulopathy, or hepatic encephalopathy, and may progress to chronic liver disease or liver failure. A common example of liver injury is drug-induced hepatotoxicity, particularly from acetaminophen overdose, highlighting the need for careful medication management.
