Spondyloarthropathy

Spondyloarthropathy refers to a group of inflammatory rheumatic diseases primarily affecting the spine and sacroiliac joints, characterised by pain and stiffness. It is clinically significant due to its potential to cause chronic pain, functional impairment, and increased risk of disability, impacting quality of life. Ankylosing spondylitis is a key example, often associated with the HLA-B27 antigen, which can lead to progressive spinal fusion and reduced mobility.
