The Alfredson protocol is a specific eccentric exercise regimen designed to treat chronic Achilles tendinopathy by progressively loading the tendon through controlled heel drops. It matters clinically because it promotes tendon remodeling and pain reduction without surgery, improving function in patients with persistent tendon pain. A key association is its effectiveness in reducing symptoms and enhancing tendon structure, although improper technique may risk tendon overload or rupture.
