Ankylosis is the pathological fusion of a joint resulting in loss of mobility due to bone or fibrous tissue bridging the joint space. Clinically, it impairs function and causes stiffness, often complicating conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or trauma. Recognising ankylosis is crucial for diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation planning to restore or optimise joint function.
