An asymptomatic tendon is a tendon that shows structural changes or pathology on imaging or histology but does not cause pain or functional impairment. Recognising asymptomatic tendons is important in clinical practice to avoid unnecessary treatment and to understand the natural history of tendon disorders. For example, asymptomatic tendinopathy can precede symptomatic injury, indicating a risk for future tendon rupture.
