Corrected serum calcium is the adjusted total serum calcium concentration accounting for abnormal serum albumin levels, reflecting the physiologically active ionised calcium more accurately. It is crucial in clinical practice to avoid misdiagnosis of calcium disorders when albumin is low or high. For example, in hypoalbuminaemia, uncorrected calcium may underestimate true calcium status, risking missed hypocalcaemia.
