Dipsogenic diabetes insipidus (DI) is a rare condition characterised by excessive thirst and polyuria due to a defect in the thirst mechanism, often triggered by lesions in the hypothalamus. This condition is clinically significant as it can lead to severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalances if not managed properly. A key association is with psychiatric disorders, particularly psychogenic polydipsia, where patients may consume excessive fluids, complicating the diagnosis and treatment of DI.
