embolic stroke

An embolic stroke occurs when a blood clot or other debris formed elsewhere in the body travels through the bloodstream and obstructs a cerebral artery, causing sudden brain ischemia. Recognising embolic stroke is crucial because it often requires urgent anticoagulation and targeted management to prevent recurrence and limit neurological damage. A common cause is atrial fibrillation, which significantly increases the risk of emboli originating from the heart.
