Fasciculation

Fasciculation refers to involuntary, spontaneous contractions of small groups of muscle fibres, often visible under the skin. It is clinically significant as it can indicate underlying neuromuscular disorders, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or peripheral nerve damage, necessitating further investigation. An example of fasciculation is the twitching of eyelid muscles, which can be benign but may also signal more serious neurological conditions if persistent.
