A fasciotomy is a surgical procedure involving the incision of fascia to relieve pressure within a closed muscle compartment. It is critical in treating compartment syndrome, where increased intracompartmental pressure compromises blood flow and tissue viability. Without timely fasciotomy, muscle and nerve ischemia can lead to permanent damage or limb loss.
