Hypertriglyceridaemia is a condition characterised by elevated levels of triglycerides in the blood, typically exceeding 1.7 mmol/L. It is clinically important because it contributes to the development of atherosclerosis and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Severe hypertriglyceridaemia can also precipitate acute pancreatitis, a potentially life-threatening complication.
